The Useful knots formed in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in Spring 2005 and began rehearsing a collection of rousing folk ballads recorded in Damen’s studio. The addition of drummer Joel and guitarist Thomas caused us to abandon our original intention to reinvent folk music and we embarked on a rock odyssey. After a brief stint as Finger Mouse and then the Pound Notes we settled on our name which had been inspired by a book Thomas and Joel discovered called “Useful Knots.”

The Useful Knot’s sound is a cataclysmic fanfare of unrelenting power pop and jangle rock cast adrift on a sea of quarterlife crisis. We steal voraciously from our many and varied influences to create an all-mighty splurge of sound that will at the very least charm the bashful and mildly delight the bold-hearted.

"The UK is good, clean fun for a narrow segment of your family."
